My work is based on the concept of 'Primary groups,' as used in sociological terms. I have portrayed feelings of attachment, affection, intimacy and sympathy as characterised by these groups.
I have emphasised closely knit bonds through close or sometimes overlapping composition, which runs in a series of heads or figures. All figures are involved in some celebration/happening which is shown by cultural elements, mainly in the background. The importance of culture is further heightened by repetitive forms and symbols which intermix with the figures in the foreground. Cultural assimilation has also been a recurrent theme in my portraiture work.
Though I thoroughly enjoy portraiture work, in my more recent work, I have moved forward the theme of group portraiture to abstract figures. While intermixing abstraction and repetitive art, my figures again show close bonds and relationships. Enclosed negative spaces are symbols of links and connections between each figure.
